The moving stillness of the river.

I keep returning to this stretch of water, its calme flow that swirls gently, disturbed only by the lock where water gurgles through the gates.

This is a big painting still in progress. I dont often show a painting that is not complete so this is something of an exception. In truth it will probably change little.

This particular river reminds me profoundly of another river, the Lagan, where as a child I used to walk with my grandfather each day. The colour and atmosphere are so close it is astonishing.

And even the little flash of blue from the kingfisher harks to those walks!
